The Manfred Lachs International Space Law Moot Court Competition, initiated by the International Institute of Space Law (IISL) in 1992, is an annual world-class moot court event. It is recognized as one of the most professional and influential competitions of its kind globally, particularly because the annual finals are presided over by three sitting judges of the International Court of Justice.
This year's competition attracted 35 teams from domestic and international universities, including Peking University, Beihang University, China University of Political Science and Law, and Wuhan University. The case topics were selected from the latest IISL space law moot court scenarios, focusing on hot issues such as non-governmental outer space activities, lunar safety zones, and space debris removal. Each team could have no more than three members and was required to submit 9,000-word memorials for both the applicant and respondent sides. All documents, oral pleadings, and judgments were conducted in English. After intense preliminary memorial reviews and live courtroom rounds, the Shenzhen University team achieved the national second prize and earned the Best Memorial Guidance Award, with their memorials ranking fourth nationally.
